Brown Bear Tackle Box Fly Patterns

Please read the patterns carefully before attempting to tie them.

This will help avoid frustration. I have tried to put the pattern down in order of construction and some of these can become complicated and time consuming.

Steelhead & General

  Name - Royal Coachman-V1

  Hook - Std wet 8-20
  Thread - Black
Tail Golden pheasant tippet
Body Rear 1/3 is peacock herl; Middle 1/3 is red floss; front 1/3 is peacock herl. (reverse wrap the peacock herl with fine gold wire to make it more durable. when the bite is on, the trout can trash the peacock herl in very short order.)
Hackle Coachman brown saddle
Wing White quill sections tied upright
I have seen and used this in many different variations. Tied wet, the hackle is tied as a collar. Tied dry, it's tied conventional, meaning behind and in front of the wing.
